My New Research Project

As some of you may already know, I love to study many different topics, from theology to philosophy to psychology. The reason for this is that I absolutely LOVE to learn. The Lord has really created in my being a strong desire to learn. This is why I am currently studying different church denominations and their doctrines. I feel like, as Christians who know the Truth found only in the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we should not be afraid to study anything that may contradict our faith. Jesus commands us to love Him with our whole heart, MIND, soul, and strength. Christians are meant to use our minds because we do not get brownie points for being dumb! Anyway, I believe that today the Lord spoke through my wife because she told me that I should strive to be a researcher for apologists. She made the point that she sees that as my calling, and honestly, I do see her point because I do love to do my own research. Actually, whenever I study any position on any issue, I like to go to primary sources instead of critiques of a position. The reason why I like primary sources and not critiques is that I believe most critiques come with a bias. This is why it is best to go to primary sources because then you can get a better representation of that viewpoint. After all, a primary source is least likely to strawman their own position!

What's your point?

My point in this blog is basically to announce to you the new research project to you all. I believe the Lord wants me to embark on a journey of checking out some churches in my area. I am not looking to change my church membership because I love my church home too much to do that. However, I would like to take the next few weeks or months, depending on where the Lord leads me, to check out different church denominations and talk to their church leaders in order to get some idea of where the churches in the Toledo area stand on different theological topics. I intend to document what I learn as a blog series every week. This journey won't start until next Sunday. If you live in the Toledo, OH area and you'd like me to check out a specific church, please let me know a week in advance, and I will be sure to add it to my list.

What faith perspective are you coming from?

I am currently a member of the Reformed (Calvinistic) tradition, and the church I call home is Stonebridge Presbyterian Church. I do not wish to revoke my membership from that church either. Stonebridge will always be my church family. This journey is solely for research purposes, but at the end of the day, I will always hang up my coat at my church home.

Do you already have a list of churches you'd like to check out?

So far, I only have two churches added to my list because they are both within walking distance from my apartment. These two churches are Upper Room Tabernacle IPC church and an Eastern Orthodox Church, too. However, I am pretty much open to checking out any church denomination at least once. If you'd like me to check out a certain church, please tell me its name, and I will do some research on it a week before I go to check it out. I am even open to checking out cults like Mormonism and Jehovah's Witnesses churches too (I ain't scared!).

What do you ask for?

I do not ask for much. I only want you all to be in prayer for me as I embark on this journey so that I can go into these churches armed with the solid meat of the Word of God. I know that this journey will prove to be a difficult one, but I trust that the Lord will sustain me in His Truth. I am not looking for a debate with these churches. I just want to better understand different faith traditions. I will never ask for any money on this journey, but if you'd like to support me so that I can have a way to travel to these different churches, you can Venmo me any donation amount. My Venmo tag is @AsianDave88, and I promise that any amount you send me will only go towards helping me travel to different churches in the Toledo area. If you do not feel led to support me financially, that is perfectly fine because all I really need is your prayers, because I need the Lord to give me the strength and will to stand firm on His Word, as I know I may be walking into a minefield in some of these churches. I hope you all will follow me as I walk down this journey.

What's the purpose of this research project?

The purpose of this research project is to shed some light on what kind of churches are around here. My goal is to be able to let other Christians know what they can expect to see and hear if they decide to check out a certain church. What I hope to accomplish is that when a Christian man or woman wants to know what kind of churches are in the area, they can come to my blog site and read about whatever church it is that they are wanting to check out. I will do my very best to remain unbiased as I write about these churches and I will do my best to represent these churches fairly and accurately, too.

Thank you for taking the time to read this blog, and I hope that you all will pray for me as I embark on this journey because I will need all the prayers that can cover me. Please stay tuned next week for my review of Upper Room Tabernacle IPC church! Thank you all and may the grace of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ richly bless you all!
